2023 Athletic Overview & Objectives

The 2023 Climbing Combine Objectives were established and based on sport specific standards along with consultation and feedback from various industry leaders, athletes, and coaches.

The Climbing Combine is formatted to test climbing specific strength and skills. In order to achieve this, the event will occur in two parts. The first half will be dedicated to testing an athlete’s general and finger specific strength and the second half will test an athlete’s climbing skill and movement. Only the top six athletes from the women’s and men’s categories of the strength test will move on to the climbing half of the event. This is considered the finals for the BFL Climbing Combine.

Please read our Rules for details about  each exercise along  with video resources to prepare and train beforehand. We strongly encourage each athlete to watch the videos included and get familiar with the objectives beforehand.

Please be aware that it is the responsibility of each athlete to understand how to safely perform each exercise before they arrive at the event. There will be spotters at the event but athletes will be expected to safely and responsibly execute each objective. Athletes will be allowed to warm up beforehand but everyone will be expected to start during their expected wave time.
